About AustinOtaku.com
As the old Crosby Stills Nash and Young song says, “…if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.” Such is the life of an otaku living anywhere outside of Japan; much more so for one living in Austin, Texas.
I am a self-described Japanophile, who has had a 29-year fascination with the various and amazing aspects of Japan, its people, and their culture. Surprisingly, I just discovered the genius of anime, manga, and J-doramas (dramas) a couple of years ago, so I’m catching up.

For most Japanophiles living in exile outside of Japan or outside of one of the major American cities with large populations of Japanese-Americans (such as San Francisco or Chicago), the only way to tap into the culture they love so much is online. I hope to discover some of the local groups, stores, restaurants, and events and share those experiences in this blog.
I’ll also do the occassional review of animes and J-doramas I’m watching, games I’m playing, or literature I’m reading. Feel free to leave your comments or send in recommendations.

Have yu found any place for ACG in Austin? I just got here(from Taiwan), On-line has it’s limit so I’m thinking about holding one instead of clicking…….
If you’re looking to buy manga and/or comics, there are two places I can recommend – Dragon’s Lair Comics and Austin Books. Dragon’s Lair is located next to Asahi Imports on Burnet. Austin Books is located on Lamar near 51st street. I’ll be posting a blog post soon about Austin Books.
For anime, you can rent anime from a few places, but there isn’t a cheap place to buy it. To watch with fellow otakus, I would suggest joining the Austin Anime Meetup or the Anime Club at UT. Both links are provided in the sidebar of this site.
Too bad you don’t live in NZ as we are building a nice little collection of anime dvds. Full Metal Alchemist and S.A.C. are the current favorites although we’ve watched them all last year. Also like 12 Kingdoms and pretty much anything anime! Think Austin is hard for good reasonable anime try NZ! Usually check out the auction sites for best prices – takes patience – I leave that to Si. xx
Great job on this website!!!! I Love it!
Thanks! Glad to hear it. Come again!
Good to see another otaku in Tx. Although I’m not originally from Tx, born and raised in Green Bay,Wi. Been living inTx for over 20 yrs. my wife was born and raised here.
