Manga-ka Konohana Sakuya to Visit Austin

Encounters

There have been some rumors lately of a possible visit to the Austin area by manga-ka (manga artists) Konohana Sakuya, which is the working alias of Kouhei Nishino and Tsugumi Nishino. And if these rumors are true, the Japan-America Society of Greater Austin will be hosting them at their monthly cultural salon … possibly on November 6th or 7th.

No venue is set yet, but this should be a very cool opportunity to meet some manga-ka in person. Who’s interested in coming?

I’ll send out an update as soon as the details are nailed down. In the meantime, check out the site for Konohana Sakuya.

Supposedly they’re coming to our school (The Art Institute of Austin) tomorrow at 4.

They sent us an email-:

“You are invited to attend an incredible opportunity this Friday, November 6 at 4:00 pm at the school in the Student Lounge.

Award-winning manga artists and creators, Kohei and Tsugimi Nishino will give a lecture about how they originally entered the manga business in Japan. They will also talk about how they create award– winning story-lines as well as sharing some secrets behind their unique manga drawings which are created both manually as well as electronically.

Konohana Sakuya is the alias of the working partnership of two comic artists, Kohei Nishino and Tsugumi Nishino. Both have had their individual works published and serialized in Japanese manga magazines, as well as on the web. Together they have won the Grand Prize of the World Manga Faithful Readership Award and the Cultural Agency’s Jury’s Choice Award.

I’m not sure if it’s open to just students but perhaps you can sneak in…
