Tonight, the Alamo Draft House at Lake Creek in Austin hosted a showing of Funimation’s “Evangelion 1.0: You Are (not) Alone.” I had heard that the theater was sold out earlier today, and I got confirmation when I looked around right before the movie began. There wasn’t an empty seat in the room. That’s pretty impressive, considering it was the dubbed version of the movie, and most anime purists prefer (or demand) subtitles instead.

The Alamo Draft House, as always, is the best venue for watching movies. They have lots of great food, spacious seating, alcoholic beverages, and no kids. I’m looking forward to future showings of anime in Austin, and from the looks of it tonight, there are many others in Austin who feel the same way.

I’ve seen the series, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had updated the graphics in the movie. The angels’ effects were definitely better, and there was a lot more fan-service in it than I remember there being in the series.
