Discovering New Music: Shugo Tokumaru

Of all things Japanese, I tend to be weakest in my knowledge of Japanese music, which is sad really. I enjoy J-rock and J-pop, often more than I like American music, and I can’t even understand what they’re saying most of the time. (Give me Gackt or Mucc over Nickelback any day.) Fortunately, my lack of knowledge can be counteracted by the knowledge my friends have.

In fact, just today my pal @pickledkitten introduced me to Japanese indie rock band Shugo Tokumaru. So far, I like what I’ve heard. I’ll have to try out a few more songs later.

Here’s a video from their song “button”:

This is a great band. The music is simple and laid back. The beat actually helped me to type this message. Let me know some of their other music you find. Yeah todays music I can’t half understand. I like classic rock, Deep Purple,Doobie Brothers, and my all time favorite is Jim Croce, a man that died before his time. Sorry I started to ramble, old timers catching up. lol:)
That’s a great photo at the top of the page.

Their other albums include:
Exit
L.S.T.
Night Piece
Nprmx – which is basically remixes of Night Piece but really good remixes.

the songs Light Chair and Such a Color are very chill and most of this band’s music is great for car rides or just to have on in the background.
